Barrington Living History Farm
The Power to Move
Introduction to draught animals and driving- an adult learning experience taught by the staff of Barrington living History Farm. Learn the basics of the teamster with an introduction to oxen, while enjoying a day of learning and growing. Saturday 9am-4pm There is a $35 registration fee which includes class room materials and lunch. Participants who are park association members or have a state park pass will receive $10 off. Texian Day
Fall is in the air and so is Texian Day at Fanthorp Inn State Historic Park.
On Saturday, visitors can experience a day at an 1850’s stagecoach inn!
Hear the hammers of the smithy ring out against the anvil. Watch the spinners
and weavers move with rhythmic motion as they ply their trade. Observe chuckwagon
cook, Eddie Eppler, create gastronomic masterpieces as dulcimer musicians
coax melodies from strings and wood. And don’t miss the oft-times humorous
and occasionally melancholy cowboy poet as he spins yarns and weaves tales
out of thin air.
Texian Day: 10 am - 3 pm at the Inn; Stagecoach Rides: 11 am - 3 pm.

Members of the Houston Area Blacksmiths Association and other smiths from around Texas will meet at Barrington and demonstrate this vanishing art. The art and utility of blacksmiths helped to build the fledgling State of Texas. Learn the process and gain an appreciation for artists of the past and present. Saturday 10:00am-4:00pm and Sunday 11:00am-4:00pm

Twilight * Firelight at Fanthorp
Fanthorp Inn State Historic Site in Anderson, Texas celebrates the holiday season with a journey back to the 1850’s. On Saturday, 25 November, the Inn opens her doors for our TWILIGHT*FIRELIGHT holiday event. Enjoy the ambiance of the candle lit Inn, period music, poetry, stagecoach rides and a host of living history characters. Activities begin at the Grimes County courthouse where visitors board a replica stagecoach or hay wagon for the ride down Main Street to Fanthorp Inn. Upon arrival, visitors will meet weary travelers, cowboys, Rachel Fanthorp and personalities who will entertain with stories, poetry, music, wassail and good cheer. The atmosphere of the Inn and the 1850’s personalities bring to the holiday season enchantment and peace – a delight for the young and young-at-heart! Tickets are sold in front of the courthouse from 4:30pm until 7:30pm.

Students from the surrounding area will come together to compete for advancement to Texas History Day, a state-level contest for students from grades 6-12. Project categories may include exhibits, papers, documentaries, performance, or websites. The public is invited to view these exceptional samples of student work throughout the day.

Your adventure at Fanthorp Inn State Historic Site in Anderson, Texas will include the foot-tapping rhythms of our favorite dulcimer players, a tour of the country Inn, the poetry of Kenny Lewis and, of course, the rough and rocky ride aboard the stagecoach! The stagecoach ride transports passengers back in time as they travel to the historic Grimes County Courthouse and return to the Inn! Activities begin at 11:00 a.m. and continue until 3:00 p.m.

Easter Sunrise Service
Springtime in Texas is a time of nature’s awakening, with the great beauty of blooming wildflowers and singing birds. It is also a time of spiritual re-awakening where man may renew himself and restore hope in his life. This is the time to join family and friends, hands, hearts and voices at the Easter Sunrise Service held at Fanthorp Inn State Historic Site in Anderson, Texas. This special spiritual event is organized by the Anderson Baptist Church, United Methodist Church of Anderson and the McKenzie Chapel. Prayers, hymns, scripture and meditation mark this event as a reverent celebration of the resurrection. Fellowship follows with refreshments provided by congregation members. Service begins at 7:00 a.m.

Stagecoach Days
Start your summer vacation with a visit to Fanthorp Inn State Historic Site in Anderson, Grimes County, Texas! On Saturday, 9 June, we will celebrate Stagecoach Days with an all-around family event. Ride our bright red stagecoach from the Inn to the restored Courthouse, enjoy the sweet strains of dulcimer music and dry a tear or two from your eyes as you listen to Kenny Lewis’ touching and humorous cowboy poetry. The event also features guided tours of the Inn! The park has picnic tables spread out under the trees for your lunchtime enjoyment! So, pack lunch and the kids and head to Fanthorp Inn State Historic Site to start your summer off by enjoying the innocence of bygone days. The event begins at 11:00 am and runs until 3:00 pm.

Stagecoach Days
July is the month for picnics, lemonade, watermelon and big shade trees. This year, July is also the perfect time to visit Fanthorp Inn State Historic Site and take part in our Stagecoach Days event. On Saturday, July 14, from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. our lovely red replica stagecoach, pulled by percheron draft horses, Willie and Waylon, will be taking passengers to the historic Grimes County Courthouse and back! Also included in the event are tours of the Inn, dulcimer music and cowboy poetry. Just what the doctor ordered to cure the summertime blues!
