Star of the Republic Museum
Native American Heritage Month
The focus at the museum for the month of November will be “Native Americans in Texas.” A special display will be presented in the Showers-Brown Discovery Center related to this topic. An expanded program on Native Americans will be offered to students in Grades K-2, at the museum for a fee of $1 per student. Minimum group size: 20 students. Reservations required.

Barrington Living History Farm
The Magic of Fire
Introductory Hearth Cooking- an adult learning experience taught by the staff of Barrington living History Farm. Learn the basics of hearth cooking and enjoy a day of learning and growing. Saturday 9am-2:30pm There is a $35 registration fee which includes class room materials and lunch. Participants who are park association members or have a state park pass will receive $10 off. Texans in 1840’s had several options to choose from when it came to traveling. From stagecoaches to steamboats and horseback to hiking there were almost as many options as there were roads and trails. How one traveled, packed and lived en route depended on the purpose of the trip as well as the traveler’s social status. We welcome you to come out and visit Barrington Living History Farm to get an up close and personal look at traveling and travelers in 1840’s Texas. Saturday 10:00am-5:00pm and Sunday 11:00am-5:00pm

Twilight * Firelight at Fanthorp
Fanthorp Inn State Historic Site in Anderson, Texas celebrates the holiday season with a journey back to the 1850’s. On Saturday, 29 November, the Inn opens her doors for our TWILIGHT*FIRELIGHT holiday event. Enjoy the ambiance of the candle lit Inn, period music, poetry, stagecoach rides and a host of living history characters. Activities begin at the Grimes County courthouse where visitors board a replica stagecoach or hay wagon for the ride down Main Street to Fanthorp Inn. Upon arrival, visitors will meet weary travelers, cowboys, Henry and Rachel Fanthorp and personalities who will entertain with stories, poetry, music, wassail and good cheer. The atmosphere of the Inn and 1850’s personalities brings to the holiday season enchantment and peace – a delight for the young and young-at-heart! Tickets are located in front of the courthouse from 4:30pm until 7:30pm.
