FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Cotton Pickin Time
On August 7th & 8th, we will be celebrating the beginning of cotton season by having a “Cotton Pickin’ Time.” Through the 1850’s, cotton was the main cash crop on Barrington Farm, the home of Dr. Anson Jones. Come join us as we begin our first cotton harvest of the season through picking, ginning, carding and spinning the cotton. Also, try your hand at the hand loom and learn more about the needlework of the 1850’s. Finally, make sure you stay around to learn how to dye your fabric as well.
“A Cotton Pickin’ Time” will be held at Barrington Living History Farm, home of Dr. Anson Jones, last president of the Republic of Texas. It is located at Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historical Site off Highway 105 on FM 1155 between Navasota and Brenham. The hours of operation for this event are Saturday and Sunday, August 7th & 8th, starting at 10:00 am and continuing until 4:30 pm. Farm admission fees are adults-- $5.00; students-- $3.00; with children 6 and under admitted free. State Park pass holders are admitted free as well.
