FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
It’s springtime in Texas and the gardens are growing here at Barrington Living History Farm. On Saturday and Sunday, May 29th - May 30th, we invite anyone and everyone to come for a day in the garden.
Learn about the foods pioneers grew to feed their families in the Brazos Valley in the 1850’s. See the heirloom varieties Anson Jones may well have been growing on his farm. This is definitely a hands-on-event and a chance to let kids young and old dig in the dirt. You can help us pick vegetables to be cooked over the hearth, make a sachet to sweeten up a drawer or closet and even take home a garden in a bag and watch your own flowers and vegetables bloom. We will also be demonstrating seed-saving, hearth cooking and making herbs vinegars in the kitchen.
Food and Flowers will be held at Barrington Living History Farm, home of Dr. Anson Jones, last president of the Republic of Texas. It is located at Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historical Site off Highway 105 on FM 1155 between Navasota and Brenham. The hours of operation for this event are Saturday and Sunday, May 29th – 30th, starting at 10:00pm and continuing until 4:30pm. Farm admission fees are adults-- $5.00; students-- $3.00; with children 6 and under admitted free. State Park pass holders are admitted free as well. For additional details call (936) 878-2214 ext 246, and ask for Kellie .
